Kirby Epic Yarn announced at E3 2010 for Fall release

Well to start off my blogging debut, I thought I'd talk about one of the announcements I just saw on my E3 recording. I have been waiting for HAL to announce this game, but I thought it was supposed to be a bit of a combination of each Kirby game from since then. I guess it's pretty easy to tell that almost none of that came true in Kirby's new installment, but that's probably a good thing.

As soon as you look at the first few seconds of this game, you're already amazed by how it looks, with graphics that could've been created by a five year old if you gave him some crayons and plenty of drawing paper. This is actually a pretty good step to go, it feels pretty inviting to see a game that has the graphic equality of a doodle with so much things happening in said doodle. Now that does sound weird listening to it, and trust me when I say it sounded weird writing it, but have you ever taking a notepad of sticky notes and made a flipbook out of it and was amazed by it? This is that flipbook, except instead of flipping the pages, you play as one of the drawings going across a giant doodle. Trust me, my sister said she wanted to play it because it looked "cute", so that is the same equality of inviting if it will make my sister want to play the game, which she rarely wants to do with any video game.

In this game, Kirby doesn't have any copy abilities I can tell you of, but he still has some transformation abilities, being able to transform into things like a U.F.O., a tank, and a parachute. Also, Kirby does have a partner, like my all time favorite Kirby game, Kirby Super Star, but the partner doesn't seem to have the variation all of your other partners had, which included absorbing your enemy. Instead, the partner actually uses some of Kirby's abilities to fight enemies, no yarn that I can see of, but definitely transformation abilities, which is the best aspect of the whole partner package, having the ability to combine with Kirby to transform into things like a giant tank.

Now as someone can tell from the title, or from Regis' "clever speaking puns" as he introduced the game to all E3 attendees, Kirby has a special item with him to fight off his enemies, a string of yarn. This yarn can be used for many abilities, like taking what the enemy throws at you (or the enemy themself) and throwing it/them outta here. You can also use it to swing through the air at certain grappling points and to literally pull the "page" in so that you can do things you couldn't do before, like jump over a long gap now short.

Now for hardcore Kirby fans, you've probably already dissed this game, calling it a total failure of a Kirby game, saying it totally rejects everything Kirby was and ever will be. If you did say that, then you couldn't be any more wrong, the original game wasn't Kirby's Adventure for the NES, it was Kirby's Dream Land for the Game Boy, where he didn't have copy abilities, just floating, smashing, and platforming. So if anything, it takes the first Kirby game ever made, and throws in some new mechanics, so this is, and always will be, a true installment to the Kirby series. However I don't expect to see any yarn abilities in the next Super Smash game.
